    This coin was minted at the Casa de Moneda de Mexico, the oldest Mint in North America, established in 1536 and is about the size of a U.S. silver half dollar maybe a tad smaller.
    The 1950 Mexican 1 Peso Silver Coin was a one-year issue, honoring José Maria Morelos, hero and martyr of the War of Independence. Morelos, a Catholic priest like Hidalgo, was the second leader of the independence movement after Hidalgo was executed by the Spanish, and eventually met the same fate in 1815.
    This coin consists of .300 silver with .1286 ASW (actual silver weight) and has a mintage number of 3,287,000.
    Front/Obverse-The Obverse features the national arms of Mexico, showing an eagle among cactus, eating a snake.
    Rear/Reverse-The reverse shows a 3/4 bust of Morelos, in his religious finery and wearing a Liberty Cap, facing left. The denomination of 1 Peso, the date, and the Mexico City mint mark are to the left of the bust.
