    Description

    Albrecht Durer
    'KNIGHT, DEATH and THE DEVIL'
The Christian Knight in a Northern forest Germany in 1513, the gleam of the polished armour which so impressed his contemporaries, around him doubt, decay and danger, he alone stands for moral strength.
Oh Erasme, where wilt thy take thy stance? Look of what avails the unjust tyranny of Wordly might and the powers of darkness? Hark, thy Knight of Christ, ride forth...
A copper plate engraving with sharp lines and great detail, was printed in 1890. Genuine antique, not a modern reprint. It has been laid to the publishers backing board which shows the publishers details.
In the late 1880’s the German Print Museum in Berlin started to make new copper plates from the best classical art copies worldwide, under the direction of it's director Dr Lippmann and issue engravings from these plates. This is one of those copies
