You Are Bidding On A 1924 Bessie Pease Gutmann “Sunbeam” Print #730 with the Original Frame In Excellent Condition and now close to 100 Years Old!
Bessie Collins Pease (1876-1960) showed an early interest in art and attended the Philadelphia School of Design For Women from 1893 to 1894 specializing in Fine Art & Professional Art.
In 1903, the Gutmann Brothers, Hellmuth & Bernhard, hired her as a commercial artist. They had started the art print firm Gutmann and Gutmann, the previous year. Hellmuth & Bessie Collins married in 1906.
The inspiration for her artwork of paintings and prints of endearing children came from her own three children, Alice, Lucille and John.
Her work also appeared on postcards, calendars, newspapers and magazines such as McCall’s, Pictorial Review, The Chicago Sunday Tribune, Women’s Home Companion and the Washington Post.
During her lifetime, Bessie Pease Gutmann created over 600 pieces of artwork!
