Description
Up for sale is my Fostex D-80, 8-track recorder. I purchased this used in the fall of 2013 as a backup recorder for my multitrack setup. I replaced the OEM hard drive (included) with a much larger drive (I believe 100GB or more but it's been a while). This allowed me to leave the D-80 running during recordings of 3 hours or more. I did not have a second bay or key so I removed the top to swap the drive. There are two concerns with this unit: 1) The unit has occasionally stopped working of late for no particular reason. It will turn on and then go off. Usually power cycling has resolved the issue. My guess is it is either the power supply getting old or the hard drive is beginning to fail. It works fine most of the time as it did when I turned it on for photos. 2) The unit has no jog dials. It was that way when I purchased it and I had little use for them in the way I used it. The outside and inside mountings can be turned by fingers and function as intended. They just aren't easy to use as if they had the knob.
Why am I selling it? I've used it for 10 years as a backup and never needed the backup. I have additional, digital backups that seem to work reliably. As I get older, lighter racks make my back happier so it's time to retire this unit.
I have a short, 8 channel snake with TS, 1/4" plugs on one end and RCA plugs in the other I used to connect the analog outputs from my preamp to this unit. Let me know if you'd like it and I'll include it in the sale. The unit also has stereo digital inputs and outputs. The can be assigned to any two of the eight channels and use a standard, optical audio cable (not included).
Please let me know if you have questions.
