    Description

This rectangular, covered Victorian tureen is marked with a raised 5-digit "Registered" number as well as "T. Furnival & Sons" on the bottom, indicating the "Spray" flowers-and-leaves transferware was probably made in
    1885
, when Thomas Furnival was casting earthenware with both of his sons in Cobridge, Stoke-on-Trent, England.
The piece measures 13" long x 7" wide x 8" high at the handles (ladle opening is on left of lid, first photo. A faint hairline crack near one of the side handles does not extend through. Light discolorations mostly below the inside rim indicate it was not only decorative but was put to careful, regular use.
