The following is a brief background history for Freidrich Wilhelm Viktor Albert (Kaiser Wilhelm II) as reported by Wikipedia:
Wilhelm II
(Friedrich Wilhelm Viktor Albert; 27 January 1859 – 4 June 1941), anglicised as
William II
, was the last
German Emperor
(
Kaiser
) and
King of Prussia
, reigning from 15 June 1888 until his abdication on 9 November 1918. Despite strengthening Germany's position as a
great power
by building a
blue-water navy
and promoting scientific innovation, his tactless public statements greatly antagonized the international community and his foreign policy was seen by many as one of the causes for the outbreak of
World War I
. When the German war effort collapsed after a series of crushing defeats on the
Western Front
in 1918, he was
forced to abdicate
, thereby bringing an end to the three-hundred-year rule of the House of Hohenzollern.
The eldest grandchild of
Queen Victoria
, Wilhelm's
first cousins
included
King George V of the United Kingdom
and many princesses who, along with Wilhelm's sister
Sophia
, became European
consorts
.
The following is a brief background history for
Auguste Viktoria Friederike Luise Feodora Jenny (Kaiserin Victoria Louise)
as reported by Wikipedia:
Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein
VA
(Auguste Viktoria Friederike Luise Feodora Jenny; 22 October 1858 – 11 April 1921) was the last
German
empress and queen of
Prussia
by marriage to
Wilhelm II, German Emperor
.
Augusta Victoria was born at
Dolzig Castle
, the eldest daughter of
Frederick VIII
, future Duke of
Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg
, and
Princess Adelheid of Hohenlohe-Langenburg
a great-niece of
Queen Victoria
.
On 27 February 1881, Augusta married her second cousin
Prince Wilhelm of Prussia
. Augusta's maternal grandmother
Princess Feodora of Leiningen
was the
half-sister
of
Queen Victoria
, who was Wilhelm's maternal grandmother.
In 1920, the shock of exile and abdication, combined with the breakdown of Joachim's marriage and his subsequent suicide, proved too much for Augusta's health. She died in 1921, in
House Doorn
at
Doorn
in the Netherlands. Wilhelm, still reeling over the same losses, was devastated by her death. The
Weimar Republic
allowed her remains to be transported back to Germany, where they still lie in the
Temple of Antiquities
, not far from the New Palace, Potsdam. Because he was not permitted to enter Germany, Wilhelm could accompany his wife on her last journey only as far as the German border.
