‘Lucian of Samosata’ by Bernard Picart after Rembrandt Van Rijn. Bernard Picart; 1673-1733, French 18th century engraver, Bernard Picart educated by his father, Etienne and from Le Brun and Jouvenet at the Royal Academy. In 1710 Picart's work eventually placed him as the successor to Romeyn de Hooghe. A rare museum quality mezzotint with black intaglio ink lines and velvet textures, the image measuring approximately 12 cms. x 17 cms. (4½ x 6¾ ins.) within a platemark and impression on a laid paper sheet size of 17 cms. x 25 cms. (7 x 10 ins) Printed beneath the image; Rinbrande pinxit….Bernart. Picart fecit et excud. as held by the Rijksmuseum, Netherlands. Unframed and unmounted, blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.

as held by the Rijksmuseum, Netherlands.
Unframed and unmounted, blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age.
