    Description

    Mexican
Gold "Centenario", 50 Pesos Coin, 1947, 37.5 Grams Pure Gold
I am not a collector and certainly not well-versed in numismatic values. This beautiful coin (1.2057 AGW/21.6 karat) came to me from my dad in a six-coin set of Gold Coins of Mexico, housed between layers of plastic secured with plastic screws. I removed the coin in order to photograph it clearly. I was initially concerned about the dark spot in the bowl of the 5 on the obverse, but through some research found it likely to be a "red spot" caused by the uneven distribution of copper (10%) and gold (90%) during the alloy process. I have made no attempt to clean the coin in any way, as the spot doesn't affect the gold content of the piece, just adds to its uniqueness.
I have also not had the coin certified and graded but have endeavored to show its condition as clearly as possible through the photos provided. I cannot tell if it was ever circulated or not.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like to see additional photos. Note that this auction is solely for the 50 pesos Centenario shown here. I invite you to see my listings for the other coins that were in the set (20, 10, 5, 2.5 and 2 pesos).
