Description
Painted by Sandra Chang-Adair to depict the moment Ariel the Mermaid first meets the Prince. He is in the cockpit of his Steampunk submarine, and sees Ariel through the windshield. The light from the copper dashboard illuminates his handsome countenance as it is love at first sight for both of them! Reflections of the waves dance above her head as fish swim in the coral behind her.I modelled the Little Mermaid's face after Beautiful Hedy Lamarr, who interesting enough was a scientist as well as a Hollywood actress. She and George Antheil, a music composer, were actually granted the patent for radio frequency hopping. During WWII, radio-controlled torpedos could be jammed by the enemy causing them to go off course. Their invention would circumvent this interference. They presented their technology to the US Navy, but was rejected. The government told her to sell government bonds instead to raise money for the war. In 1962, after their patent had expired, the idea was implemented during the Cuba Missile Crisis. This work was honored in 1997, when the Electronic Frontier Foundation gave Lamarr a belated award for her contributions. Today, their technology is used in blue tooth, wi-fi and cell phones.
The Prince is based on Errol Flynn, the great movie actor. He is known for such roles as Captain Blood, Sea Hawk, Robin Hood and Charge of the Light Brigade. They don't make Hollywood stars like him any more. He was born in Tasmania and was a rogue, wanted criminal, ladies man and even a slave trader in New Guinea before he arrived at Warner Bros. Check out his movies! His pirate movies are the reason I love action films to this day!
The mermaid tail was inspired by Siamese Fighting Fish. I wanted an atypical interpretation of the mermaid tail.
This is one of my favorite paintings I've made this year! I hope you like it too!
This is an open addition print and will be printed on with Canon ChromaLife 100+ inks on Canon Glossy Photo Paper with a white border around the image. Prints can achieve a life of over 200 years when stored in an archival album. Notice that since the dimensions of the painting is more vertical, the border on the sides will be larger.
It does not come with a frame or matte.
