  • Condition: PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION. Tascam 238 unit, I bought this recorder new in the mid 90's, but it has very low hours (maybe 100 ish) on it so head wear is really at a minimum and the unit is cosmetically excellent. However, Channel # 8 no longer records properly, being intermittent. I retired this unit around 2001 when I acquired a larger 16 channel unit and this on has sat on a shelf since. When I pulled it out to test it, for this sale, I was able to confirm channels 1-7 still record and play back fine, but channel 8 is still problematic. I swapped the record /playback amp circuit boards between channel 7 and 8, and confirmed the problem is in the board as channel 7 had the problem and channel 8 worked normally. Thus, you can use this as a 7 track recorder as is, or repair / replace channel #8 board. The notorious motor speed problem these can get was corrected long ago with new caps.

The unit is cosmetically excellent.    However,
