Description

Hi.
I acquired this from a gentleman who has "secret connections" for obtaining incredible examples of equipment. This man has very high end, vintage gear {I wish he would tell me where he gets it. I'm trying}. This is one of three items I purchased from him. I wanted a Tascam 122 analogue cassette deck he had, but he wouldn't separate 3 pieces he chose to sell together, so I bought them all.
My camera is not the best. The display is crystal clear and sharp {camera Can't take pics with flash off}. The face, cabinet looks excellent. To find another in this condition would be quite a chore.
Tascam DA20 MKII DAT deck.
I maintained DAT decks, along with literally every tape format, audio and video known for decades {still do when called to}, and upon inspection I can honestly say I see absolutely no sign of a tape being threaded up and ran, ever. I did no routine maintenance for it is perfect inside. Even the input and output jacks show no use. The rack mounts have never been used. It just was never used.
I had here 20 new DAT tapes I recently acquired {at a flea market, knowing somebody needed them. True story}. I didn't want to play this deck, for I am sure it never had a tape threaded up. I went ahead and recorded Nora Jones, filling one side of one of the Maxell tapes. Works perfectly, sounds perfect.
I am including in this 10 brand new individually sealed Sony 65 Pro DAT tapes, and 10 new Maxell R-35DA Pro tapes. These are new, just not individually sealed. Note: I recorded on one of the Maxell as mentioned above. It will be the one with the record protect tab open.
See pictures. I pack Very well, fear not. I'm a analogue guy or I would certainly keep this. This IS the one to buy if your searching for one. Ask me any questions.
A few words from the web about the model. Thanks much.
Verdict
I've always found the DA20 to be a straightforward, fine‑sounding DAT recorder, so the sonic improvements in the DA20 MkII are quite subtle, but having a proper error readout is very welcome, as are the other enhancements described earlier. In my view, the only real weakness of this machine for professional applications is the use of unbalanced phonos for the analogue ins and outs, though in most private studios, that won't compromise the quality of the final recording. If you haven't used a DA20 before, you'll almost certainly appreciate the clearly set‑out control panel and the positive transport. The DA20 MkII is identical in layout, and although there are some consumer features you may never use, they are arranged so as to keep out of your way unless you want them. In value terms, one of the best deals in studio DAT machines.
