    Description

Unusual Vintage Sterling Silver Marcasite Set Thimble
This attractive sterling silver thimble is quite unusual. It has stylized floral designs around the sides and is set with dozens of faceted marcasites. "925" is stamped on the bottom of the rim and it has a small maker's mark, a G or C maybe
. The most unusual aspect is the top which is pierced with holes. Obviously, the sides were meant to be used to push the needle. Maybe it was supposed to keep the finger cool. There were some patented thimbles with holes in the top for that reason. It is cast and heavy, 15.6 grams.
The size is about an American size 12 (17.6 mm diameter opening).
The condition is excellent with no damage at all and the marcasites are all intact. It was bought in Europe and I don't think it's terribly modern, but I have no idea of the age or nationality.
I stand behind everything that I offer and
    guarantee
that it is exactly as presented.
