Description
A fantastic, large, Rimmed Soup Stew Tureen, a Covered Casserole by the legendary design house Marimekko in collaboration with Pfaltzgraff, the prolific American ceramics maker. Modern minimalist. Circa 1970s.A generous, oversized, glossy white semi porcelain cylinder. This beautiful, balanced and substantial serving piece has a lid, with an angular handle on top and a carved out notch that accommodates the long serving spoon or ladle, Marked Hong Kong. I do not know if ladle originally came with it, but age is correct and purchased these together.
The tureen stands 6 5/8 inches tall (add another inch for the lid) x 9 3/8 inches in diameter across the rim; 8 3/8 inches across the top opening. It measures 6 3/8 inches in diameter across the base. The ladle notch measures 1 1/4 inch long x 3/4 inches wide.
This piece is in wonderful, like new, condition. The finish is gleaming and unblemished. There are no utensil marks and the tureen appears to never have been used. The distinctive Marimekko signature appears in raised, all lower case lettering in an arch at the center of the base. It says By Pfaltzgraff USA below that.
A wonderful Modern Minimalist addition to a cook's collection, for serving or display.
