    Description
Vintage, likely circa 1950s (see notes below) and quite possibly scarce/rare--especially to find it in its entirety and excellent condition-- portfolio of famed Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal characters SNAP CRACKLE & POP artist Vernon Grant's prints. These 16 prints were done for the Rock Hill, South Carolina Chamber of Commerce to promote the city he adopted as home. In its original envelope with the portfolio folder featuring his wonderful whimsical artwork on the front l, and a cover sheet followed by 16 wonderful prints graphically and whimsically showing all the benefits life in Rock Hill has to offer! This would make a fabulous collage of framed prints on the wall of a Vernon Grant fan, a Rock Hill historian and lover or especially someone who is both! Each print is on quality stock paper, measuring 8.5 x 11. The envelope has a name written in pencil, some age toning and a corner bend on the back. Otherwise everything else is in VG+ to Fine condition in our estimation.
    Vernon Simeon Plemion Grant
    (April 26, 1902 – July 9, 1990) was an
    American
    illustrator known for his whimsical
    gnome
    characters and
    fairy tale
drawings. Over seven decades, Grant created hundreds of illustrations for advertising (
    General Electric
    ,
    Gillette
    ,
    Hershey's
    .
    Kellogg's
    ) and major magazines, including
    Judge
    and
    Ladies' Home Journal
. He is best known as creator of Kellogg's
    Rice Krispies
    cereal characters
Snap! Crackle! and Pop!In 1936, Grant met and married Elizabeth Fewell, a native of Rock Hill, South Carolina. They had two children, son Chip and daughter Kay. In 1947, Grant and his family established a 670-acre (2.7 km
    2
) farm outside Rock Hill, raising Angus cattle and Concord grapes. Grant became active in farming organizations, and his farming practices were recognized with awards from state agricultural associations.
In the late 1950s, Grant led the Rock Hill Chamber of Commerce, promoting changes in city planning and public housing. (We believe these prints were likely done during that time.) He served as the city's first director of public housing from 1965 to 1971.
