    Description

Document signed by Bacardi Rum Founder Facundo Bacardi in Cuba on April 20, 1849.
The document is a total of 8 pages.
The document features two Facundo Bacardi signatures.
A large primary signature is featured on page 7.
A second smaller signature is featured on an addendum on the page 8.
Document is written in Catalan and has not been fully translated, however from partial translation the document appears to be a legal document in which Don Facundo Bacardi is transfering a Hacienda Pilon, an estate/property in Spain, to a loyal employee named Julio Ducarse.
By 1849, thirteen years before Don Facundo Bacardi established his distillery in Santiago de Cuba and founded Bacardi Rum, he had built a successful merchantile business in Santiago, so one may conclude having established himself in Cuba he was parting with at least some of his assets in Spain.
Just over three years after he signed this document, a devistating earthquake would hit Santiago on August 20, 1852 decimating the city.
Though he spent months supporting relief efforts in Santiago, the distruction and disease that followed led Don Facundo to bring his family to the safety of his birthplace of Sitges, Spain. Eagar to continue his pursuits in Cuba, he would return to Santiago with his family just a few months later.
