2004 Mexico Series: (2004 - 2007 180th Anniversary of Federation) - 100 Peso Gold & Silver Bi-Metallic Proof Coin.ESTADO DE SAN LUIS POTOS
Depiction: Louis IX of France standing on a hill in the town of Cerro de San Pedro (ESTADO DE SAN LUIS POTOS) with Gold Bars on one side and Silver on the other side. This town is famous for it's Gold and Silver Mines.This Monedas de los Estados Mint coin and case are in excellent condition. There is no certificate with this coin other than the original Monedos de los Estados Coin Case. This is a Rare coin as only 1000 were ever minted.
This specimen is one of a series issued by the Mexico City mint to honor each of the Mexican states. The program was modeled on the U. S. Mint's state quarter program and was quite popular. The first series, was a circulating coin: 33.825 g, brass outer ring with .925 fine silver center, .500 troy oz ASW, 39.9 mm diameter, segmented reeded edge featuring the arms of each state, was issued in reverse alphabetical order, starting with Zacatecas.
Recorded mintage is: 249,318 for the Brass/Silver circulation coin.
It also issued this Bimetallic gold/silver Proof Commemorative Coin.
This specimen is a gold and silver bimetallic proof. The catalog description[1] noted, "Estados Unidos Bi-Metallic gold and silver 100 Pesos 2004, Proof 29.169 g, Bi-Metallic, .999 Gold 17.154 g center in .999 Silver 12.015 g ring, 34.5 mm diameter Celebrating the 180th anniversary of federation. Housed in its original Mint Case. Recorded mintage for these Rare and Highly Collectable Bi-Metallic Gold/Silver Proof Uncirculated Coins is 1000.
